When You Encounter a Tiger in Your Lifeboat
I started to think maybe we had got out of the rough water. In our lifeboat, I could see we were gaining some distance from the listless hunk of wood we had found ourselves clinging to when the rapids hit in monsoonal rain. I was beginning to feel that I could start planning again to begin working on my journey to wholeness. Little did I know there was a tiger in the lifeboat with me.
So goes best laid plans when life just doesn’t think you have had too much to handle. I began the weekend tired but determined to get this blog back on course by completing the one habit I was hopeful would stick so far. I found lovely and pretty easy recipes for the week knowing my child would be with us at least one day of the week during the day. Ready to write out my pat on the back blog post and announce I was getting back on my journey, our air conditioning unit died. While it is not miserable outside yet, the tropical heat that our little home now has covered all of us like an electric blanket that we forgot to turn down when we went to sleep.
This new development, which we are told will be fixed hopefully this week, even makes me bristle a bit when I think of all the dinners I was planning behind a hot stove and a high heat producing oven. But I could deal with that. If I was on my own, I would just eat ramen and what I lovingly call “bean surprise”. But I am not on my own. I have a child whose internal body temperature still hasn’t settled whether they will be a “loves when the frost on your nose can turn your fingertips blue” person or would prefer lounging on a beach soaking in the sun. They are a wild card so far, but my spouse is definitely not. My spouse would like to live in the Klondike or maybe even the Alps if they could. Anything above 75 degrees Fahrenheit is cause for shorts and some way to cool themselves down preferably with ice. Adding a hot oven to the already warm house would mean I am flirting with a more disagreeable person than Grumpy Bear and Grumpy from Snow White put together.
I think I will pass. Time for plan b that didn’t exist before 3:35pm today. A quick trip to my local warehouse, discount, buy in bulk place and a review of my already written plan and plan b was born. I think I can give some leeway to the repair person who will fix the motor on the air conditioner by using my microwave for my main heating of dinner meals while still not eating junk.
Monday: Tacos (using prepare carnitas that just need to be microwaved)
Tuesday: Chicken & bean salad (using already cooked shredded chicken and canned beans)
Wednesday: Chicken tikka masala (using a prepare masala that can be microwaved along with microwave rice)
Thursday: Chicken enchiladas (which may have to be switched out if the tech runs into issues)
Friday: 3 bean and barley soup (hoping I will be relaxing in a working AC)
Sunday: Ultimate Pot Roast
Let’s see whichever deity wishes to grant me mercy comes through.
